Present Wish Lists

Creating A Wish List is a simple enough process, sites which offer the feature ask for

  • a name for the list - you can have various lists based on your needs, in fact you can add a list for yourself perhaps for a wedding, or other members of your family birthdays and anniversaries, which makes controlling the wish lists easier.
  • where the wishlist is being added to a retailer make sure the products they offer suit the type of wishlist. For example AMAZON is not a good choice for a WEDDING - ARGOS (UK) is.
  • choose a retailers wishlist for the COUNTRY where you live even if some of the present givers live elsewhere in the world.
  • describe the list - usually this would tell friends and relatives about the event or celebration, especially useful for people who do not know you well, yet are invited to your celebration and want to bring a gift.
  • make the list one of these types, this feature may not apply to all wish lists especially those from online retailers.
    • public - the list can be viewed by anyone accessing the web site hosting your wish list, they may be able to view it but cannot access the list.
    • private - the list is viewable only by people who know your email address or user name and can find the list, otherwise it is not findable. Most retailers wishlists have a reference number which is needed to access the list and view it (but not to be able to control it in anyway) which is done by the wishlist owner (you) and the act of buying products from the list (identified by a unique ID to both the item AND the wishlist.)
    • friends - this is a tightly controlled list and only viewable by friends you have added to YOUR friends list, using this type can restrict or put off some people. Some lists allow any user to access the list with a suitable ID and password and can tick off presents they have BOUGHT or are PLANNING to buy for you.
  • make sure the list is prepared at least a month before the celebration event to give people time to plan their purchase, arrange delivery and wrapping etc.
  • GIFT Certificates can be included as presents also sometimes specific to certain stores (not all stores allow gift certificates to be used online, only in land based stores)
